Interactive tracker shows hummingbird migration, expected arrival

Hummingbirds are heading north as springtime arrives in Michigan. You can get a better understanding of the birds' migratory routes and when to anticipate their arrival in the state by examining an interactive web map.

The majority of Michigan's initial hummingbird sightings occurred in early May of last year.

Hummingbird attraction tips Replace food on a regular basis. Maintain the cleanliness of your bird feeder.

Do not use pesticides. Fill the bird feeder only with food or water. Honey should not be used in bird feeders.

Make your own nectar Hummingbirds can benefit from nectar, which is easy to make at home with a few ingredients.

You will need four parts water to one part sugar to make the nectar. After that, either combine the sugar and boiling water in a bowl or simmer the mixture in a pot until the sugar is completely dissolved.

After the mixture has cooled, fill the hummingbird feeder, hang it outside, and watch the birds fly in.
